Ixelles consists of several quarters such as the quarters of the Porte de Namur, Toison d'Or , Matongé and Luxemburg. And also the Saint Boniface, Flagey and Châtelain quarters. It is a cosmopolitan municipality with many shops and green areas such as the Bois de la Cambre. The campusses of the VUB are also for a large part in Etterbeek.

Ixelles est desservie par les transports en commun bruxellois : à la gare du Luxembourg s'ajoutent plusieurs lignes de tramway en site propre et de bus. Son territoire est traversé par deux voies principales : l’avenue Louise et le boulevard du Souverain ainsi que le Boulevard général Jacques.
